 The quarter horse is the most common horse breed in America, the AQHA (American Quarter Horse Association) is a registration for the American quarter horse and is also used as a nickname for the quarter horse. The quarter horse was found around the 1660s, the AQHA has the bloodlines of English stock horses and Chickasaw horses. The quarter horse is calm and very intelligent, its height ranges from 14.2 hands high/hh to 18 hands high/hh. Hands are used to measure horses at the withers (bottom of the neck) one hand is 4 inches. The highest speed an AQHA has been recorded is 44 mph.
